WHY PSARAS APARTMENTS
Psaras apartments are located in the village of Stalis which was created to take advantage of the superb sandy beaches. It is also next to the main highway on the island so making visits to other areas relatively easy.
The apartments are 20 metres from the beach and a similar distance from a small supermarket making the location ideal for those who want the convenience of their holiday apartment 'on the doorstep'.
Unsurprisingly, once Stalis was established there has been a growth in business such as bars, restaurants and clothing shops. Car, quad bike and moped hire is literally just down the road.
The apartments are available as studio style or one bedroom. Additional beds can be located in the lounge area of the one bedroom apartments. There are self catering facilities and a balcony or terrace but not with sea views. The gardens are a real asset with a true mediterranean feel.
Just down the road is Malia with a range of night clubs and late opening bars. This makes Stalis relatively quiet!
ABOUT CRETE Crete is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean. The island itself is 260km in length from east to west and the width varies between 15 and 60km. That gives an area of about 8,300sq.km. There are three quite different mountainous regions with a coast line of about 1,000Kms consisting of sandy beaches and rocky shores. The population is 600,000.
For comparison the whole of the United Kingdom including Northern Ireland has an area 245,000sq.km and in 2001 a population of 59,000,000. Basically Crete is a lot smaller than the UK but a lot less populated. A population density of about 246 people per square kilometer in the UK against 72 in Crete!
BEST TIMES TO VISIT
Generally the holiday season starts in May. The sea is warmer and generally tourist levels are still low. Some people consider this one of the best times to visit due to still slightly lower temperatures. You get a suntan, but it takes a little longer!
July and August is the high season. Expect to pay a little more. The sea is warm but you can still find quieter villages. Incidentally the population of Greece vote with their wallet. Many of the tourists are Greek and the atmosphere is superb.
September and October are again very favoured due to reduced tourist numbers, still warm seas but slightly reduced daytime temperatures. Their are savings to be made in car hire etc and the Cretans offer a genuine welcome as the tourist season draws to a close.
